Good news for anyone who works from home!

WorkFromHomeJobs have launched a competition for anyone who works from a home office:
To enter, simply photograph your desk or workspace and upload it to the WorkFromHomeJobs Facebook page. The prize on offer: an ergonomic office chair worth around £200.

As Agnese Geka of WorkFromHomeJobs.tv explains,
"We hear so many stories from our WorkFromHome community about how being uncomfortable is bad for work productivity. And, of course, it can mean long-term bad problems as well.

"Anyone who works from home should have a good quality chair but they cost a lot of money - hundreds of pounds - and most people can't afford to splash the cash like that.
So we've decided to hold a competition that gives anyone who works from home the opportunity to work from home in comfort."

The deadline for entering the competition is April 29th, and the winner will be announced on May 3rd.

A little about back pain

Back troubles typically start out as an uncomfortable feeling but aggravates into worse and worse back pain. When you consider that the average worker spends 8 hours per day seated at a desk it becomes clear how, for many, their back problems are developing all the time.

Bad posture is one of the most common causes of back pain: a study by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) found that half of all Americans suffer back pain as a direct result of bad posture at work. How many people is that? Around 31 million people, in the US alone.

How does that translate in medical terms? The study found a hefty $50bn is paid per year on physio and other back treatments.

Interestingly, simple changes to your behaviour bring clear improvements to back problems. Ergonomic chairs have transformed the workplace, giving spinal support, relieving pressure. Workers soon notice the knock-on effect of having a good ergonomic chair. What does this mean? That they feel comfortable, at last. There is no distracting pain or discomfort. They can actually get on with their work.

Posture requirements

The NHS consider back problems of such importance they've released a Back Book that outlines all their advice on maintaining good posture and good habits. This is to improve the lives of the nations workers and also reduce the amount of patients the NHS have to send to physio.

Their spinal specialists argue that you take a number of precautions, including all of the following:
- Leave two inches between your seat's front edge and the back of your knees.
- Line up your computer screen with or just below your eyeline.
- Adjust your arm-rests at a 70-135 degree angle to the keyboard.
- Place your knees at a 90-120 degree angle, using a foot rest if necessary

Imagine the inconvenience of having to prepare yourself for work in line with all these points A good ergonomic chair promotes good posture naturally, by fitting itself to your spine, giving you lower back support.

The WorkFromHomeJobs Facebook competition to win an ergonomic chair worth £200 runs until the 29th April, and the winner is announced on the 3rd May.
