Working at Height Training -- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government To Promote Safety In Construction Industry
Safety on construction sites is a key issue in the special administrative region. Workers are pushed to follow stringent deadlines, perform efficiently, and will continue to undertake a huge volume of construction work in the future.
Online, September 10, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Serious Factory and MTECH Engineering Company Ltd., have recently worked on a joint project for the Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (DEVB HKSARG) and the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council (CIC) to improve occupational safety and emergency response in building construction. Serious Factory is a major developer of 3D digital applications for marketing and sales purposes. MTECH Engineering Company, Ltd. provides 3D, PLM and BIM consulting services in Asia and is a value added reseller for Serious Factory.
Coping with deep issues in the field
Safety on construction sites is a key issue in the special administrative region. Workers are pushed to follow stringent deadlines, perform efficiently, and will continue to undertake a huge volume of construction work in the future.
The DEVB and CIC jointly organized Construction Safety Week 2013 in Hong Kong, May 27-31, to address the challenges of increasing on-site safety with unprecedented construction output in the coming years. This was an industry-wide safety promotional campaign with the theme "Zero Accident". As part of Construction Safety Week, Serious Factory and MTECH Engineering Co., Ltd. were tasked to develop Working at Height Training, an educational application game and safety-training tool for construction workers. Through this project, the DEVB and the CIC let participants team up to foster a better culture of safety.
During the plenary session of Construction Safety Week 2013, Working at Height Training was presented in the Zero Accident Declaration Ceremony officiated by the Chief Executive of HKSARG. In addition to the ceremony's 600 attendees, more than 30,000 workers on 800 construction sites in the region also participated and were shown playing the app via a live Internet video feed.
A fun, realistic and highly educational game
The objective was not to develop a complex video game, but an entertaining game that would reach the greatest number of workers. The game is divided into two parts. In the first part, the player needs to identify seven working-at-height hazards on a construction site and select the necessary precautionary safety measures for each hazard. In the second part, the player is required to erect a metal scaffold following a safe working procedure. The player is also quizzed on various requirements of a properly erected metal scaffold.
It is not as easy as it seems! Players need to use their wits to find the hazards on the construction site. Maneuvering all around the site locating the main issues, finding the best solutions for work safety while scoring more points are all part of the challenge!
Behind its playful aspects, Working at Height Training is a powerful game that allows some workers to refresh their existing knowledge and for others to learn more about work safety best practices.
The game is available on iOS, Android and also online.
Play it safe!
