XebiaLabs to Present at Agile 2010 Conference

Deployment Automation Enhances Agile Environments with Faster Time-to-Market and Cost Savings

BOSTON - XebiaLabs, the deployment automation company for Java applications, today announced that Wilco Koorn, Senior Consultant and Scrum Master at XebiaLabs, will be presenting a paper co-written with Jeff Sutherland, CEO of Scrum, Inc., at the Agile 2010 Conference, August 9-13, at the at Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Florida.

The session, "Unleash the Agile power: bridge the Gap between Development and Operations," being held at 9:45am EST on Thursday, August 12th in room A-1, will focus on issues many IT organizations face when deploying applications in an Agile environment and how they can be overcome to fully realize Agile's potential.

These issues stem, in part, because within an Agile environment, there are simply more releases to deploy. Due to the nature of Agile, development teams are able to deliver working tested software in much shorter iterations. While this is great for the company, as they can have better flexibility and shorter time to market, it often creates a backlog for operations teams who need to deploy the applications as quickly as they're being delivered.

"Deploying releases manually is a complicated process that is only exacerbated by issues such as virtual sprawl and poor upkeep of scripts and instruction manuals," explains Wilco Koorn, Senior Consultant and Scrum Master, XebiaLabs. "However, having an automated deployment process keeps these frequent releases on schedule and error free. With deployment automation software, IT organizations are able to bridge the gap between development and operations teams, enabling them to maintain the higher productivity levels, shorter time to market, and other advantages Agile brings to a company."

As part of the session, a case study of KLM/Air France will demonstrate how seamless deployments and major cost savings were achieved by implementing a self-service change control process for development still under full control of operations.
