YMCA to Bring Community Together For Beyond Tolerance Workshop

Interactive Event to Help People Recognize, Moderate Religious, Cultural Biases

PALO ALTO, CA - Palo Alto Family YMCA announced today that it will host a "Beyond Tolerance" workshop, Sunday, May 15, at the YMCA located at 3412 Ross Road in Palo Alto from 2 - 5 p.m. Rev. Bruce Bramlett, an Episcopal priest and Holocaust educator, will facilitate a discussion with group exercises about recognizing personal biases within yourself and among others. Everyone is welcome to the free event, but registration is required.

"We want to encourage everyone to become more self-aware about prejudice and to honestly examine their own perceptions regarding other cultures," said Patty Doolittle, director of administrative services for Palo Alto Family YMCA. "We hope to provide the tools for people to move beyond tolerance into appreciation and acceptance, while celebrating what makes each of us unique."

In both small and large group discussions, participants will share their realizations and reactions in response to facilitated exercises while engaging in peaceful, meaningful dialog with others who are culturally different.
