"You look like a movie star, and I believe I'm lucky--spending time with you."
The new CD "Pretty" by Whitman Rinaldo has great songs and playful lyrics, in the vein the Kinks, U2, Beatles and UB40. The Northern Virginia/ Washington DC guitarist's CD has been released under the CreateSpace record label.
Online, October 19, 2009 (Newswire.com) - The title track, "Pretty," is a Beatlesque song dedicated to his late mother Mary Anne Rinaldo Her face is on cover, from 50 years ago very much resembling Grace Kelly. The album is an homage to her and other wonderful women in his life. The disc starts with "Femininity," a rowdy Rolling Stones-style rocker:
You're the prettiest woman in the neighborhood.
Hey, sexy mamacita, now cook me something good.
Come on over here and kiss me, pretty please,
And say something sexy in Portuguese.
This eclectic mix of all original songs delves into rock, blues, bossa nova and reggae. "Survivor's Song" is a Kinks-style song dedicated to cancer survivors finding strength. Sounding like earlier U2, "Inspiration," was written about watching gracefully althletic olympic ice skating. "Um Beijinho," is a romantic bossa nova. "Subprime" is a reggae song about the mortgage crisis. Mark Thomas, of KMSU's radio show The World Beat, says that the song (has)..."turned the pain of the subprime meltdown into an ironic reggae laced truth potion."
Rinaldo wrote all the songs and did all vocals and guitars, plus most other instruments and production. This CD is being co-released with an instrumental CD, "Guitar Snacks," and is the follow-up to "Luke Warm & the Red Hots," released in the 90's. All of his CD's are available from Amazon.com.
