ZisBoomBah takes on Challenge for Appsforhealhtykids.com Award

ZisBoomBah, the only approved Colorado start-up, says "It's OK to Play with Food" in First Lady Michelle Obama's Apps for Healthy Kids Contest.

Boulder, Colo.-ZisBoomBah is the only Colorado start-up finalist in Michelle Obama's nationwide Apps for Healthy Kids challenge, which is part of her Let's Move! campaign to end childhood obesity. ZisBoomBah's "Pick Chow" application flips conventional wisdom on it's side by encouraging kids to play with food to build their own healthy meals.

ZisBoomBah creators developed a tool that makes food fun for kids using the USDA's Nutrition. The ZisBoomBah approach is a departure from everything that has been tried and failed, and the first approach that puts children at the center of the solution. ZisBoomBah 's website - "where it's OK to play with your food" - arms children and parents with the truth about the food they eat every day and empowers them to create their own wholesome meals with an easy, free online tool called "Pick Chow!" By playing "Pick Chow!" children learn to make responsible food choices early on - a skill that will serve them throughout their life.

"Pick Chow offer kids a voice and they love it! What better than to tell their parents what they want for dinner and parents seeing how healthy it is", founder Karen Laszlo explains. "We empower them to make healthy choices and then reinforce their decisions by sharing meals with their parents." ZisBoomBah created blogs and videos featuring leading experts in response to requests from hundreds of parents who were interviewed while reviewing the website.

"We continue to enhance our site and are excited Michelle Obama selected our Pick Chow application to be a finalist," says co-founder Mike Carcaise, "but in the end, it's not about winning or losing, it's about helping the kids. "

About ZisBoomBah

ZisBoomBah is an innovative website that challenges conventional wisdom and develops tools to empower children and inspire parents to live a fun, active and healthy life. ZisBoomBah's free online tool "Pick Chow!" allows children to create meals by dragging and dropping foods onto their virtual plate. The "Add it Up!" meters show the nutritional values in a fun and easy way and rates each meal with one to five stars - a feature that helps children learn quickly how their choices make a difference in creating a well-balanced meal. Children can send their "chow" to their parents, who then receive an email with what their child has chosen to be a healthy choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with the menu, recipe, shopping list and coupons.

Behind ZisBoomBah is a panel of health, nutrition and food experts and a team of experienced entrepreneurs who strive to ensure that the site's content is sound and the recipes are as delicious for kids as they are nutritious.
