PLEASANTON, Calif. - June 1, 2010 - Zoho today announced Zoho Search, a unified, actionable search engine for the company's suite of online productivity, collaboration and business applications. With Zoho Search, users can search for keywords across multiple Zoho applications simultaneously and get an integrated view of deep, detailed and actionable results. A video tour and slideshow presentation of Zoho Search are available at http://bit.ly/d3F3RX and http://bit.ly/ckNbBn, respectively.

"We want to help people be more productive. So, we introduced concepts like contextual information integration across Zoho Apps. Now, we take it one step further with Zoho Search, integrating data as well as applications contextually when users search for information. Giving users one search box to look for data across all of their applications streamlines the search process," said Raju Vegesna, Zoho evangelist. "What good is search if you can't act on the information you find. We introduced actionable search, allowing users to take action from within the search results screen - from replying to an email message to initiating a chat session with another user - making it easier for users to work with the results. We've focused Zoho Search on our own application suite, therefore, we're able to do a lot of things that other search providers simply can't do. And our customers benefit as a result."

Zoho Search - Unified

Typically every application - from word processor to email to contacts and beyond - includes its own search box. To search for information in any one or more of these applications, the user has to search each application separately. With Zoho Search, Zoho users have a single search box from which to search multiple Zoho applications simultaneously.

Initially, Zoho Search can search across user content in Zoho Mail, Zoho Docs, Zoho Writer, Zoho Sheet, Zoho Show, Zoho Notebook, Zoho Discussions and Zoho Accounts. Eventually, Zoho Search will let users search all Zoho applications.

Zoho Search displays results from all applications in a single screen, grouped together based on their associated application. Users can view additional results from each application category. Zoho Search also categorizes the results based on commonly used or known facets - termed as "Guided Navigation" or "Faceted Search" - such as application name, document type, author, etc., enabling users to easily and quickly navigate to the exact result they are looking for.

The results reflect Zoho Search's deep knowledge of the applications searched. For instance, search results that include an email from Zoho Mail will include the email folder, date sent, sender information, etc. (Zoho Search lets users search multiple mail accounts, including POP accounts.) Zoho Search will also know if the sender is on the user's buddy list and, if so, online and available to chat via Zoho Chat.

Zoho Search completely understands the permissions and privileges that users have in each of the Zoho applications while searching. For example, documents shared with or by the user, forums the user belongs to, groups/organizations the user is a part of, and access rights to documents (i.e. read-only, read-write). This ensures only relevant data is shown to the user.

Zoho "Actionable" Search

Typical search results direct the user to another site or another application. Zoho Search results let users take action on the returned results. That is, Zoho Search transforms a list of search results into an array of action items.

If the search result is an email, the user can view that email directly within the search results screen - and even reply to or forward that mail - without having to open the Zoho Mail application. As Zoho Search knows the sender information, it offers actionable options to view mails sent to and sent by the sender as well as to chat with the sender, directly within the search results screen.

Users have similar options in the Documents section. Zoho Writer documents, Zoho Sheet spreadsheets, Zoho Show presentations and Zoho Notebook files can be viewed within the search interface. Users can also share those files, chat with the file owners, view files shared by/to them, all from within the search results screen.

Pricing and Availability

Zoho Search is available immediately at http://search.zoho.com and in Zoho Business. Zoho Search is free and will eventually be integrated with all of the Zoho applications, appearing as the search box at the top of each application.
