The article, titled "Phase 1 Safety and Immunogenicity Testing of DNA and Recombinant Modified Vaccinia Ankara Vaccines Expressing HIV-1 Virus-like Particles," will appear in the March 1 issue of The Journal of Infectious Diseases.

The initial phase of this grant provides PolyMedix with $0.5 million over the first year, with the opportunity for an additional $0.5 million in the second year, to validate and pursue defensin-mimetic antimicrobial compounds.

Although the GeoVax vaccines are currently being studied for HIV prevention, this is the first study using the same products for treatment of persons who already have HIV infection. ARCA is the only site for this trial.
